Dear Mother
I have received two
or three letters from you and I dont
now whether I have answered them
all or not we have bean in camp
here this makes the 3d day and I think
we will stay here about a week longer
they have got 9 miles of rail road to
and then I think we will move
I would as soon be on the move as
laying around camp the Rebels are
very bold here 5 came into camp
Saturday and shot a man that was
on guard at Head Quarters the guard
fired on them and shot one of them
we found him in the brush the
next morning he was a Lieut the
General sayes he will Hang him as
soon as he gets well, I wish you
could stand in my tent at night
and see the camp fires of our
Brigade we can see all the camps
from one tent and they look splend
ed. it is rumord in camp that
our government are a going to have
trobel with france I hope not or we
will have to go to Mexico I dont
care about going there,
Con Huthman is down here but I have
not seen him yet. we got a recruit
from white lake his mane is Poter
I never saw him before he sayes
dick Scerrit has enlisted and is coming
down here. you wanted to now
if Charles Rice is our 2d Lieut he
is not we have not got men
enough to muster one but I think
he will be as soon as we get men
enough he is well. I supose you
have not comenced to make
garden yet I saw as we came along
the road Peas that were up 4 or 5
inches the farmers are all at work plow
ing down here. tell Father to send
me a hat sice 7 1/8 tell him to get
as light a black hat as he can
find and send it by mail I
want a citicons hat with a wide
rim. the hat I bought in Pontiac
is about wore out. I think when
we come home we will come through
washington as we are making for
Verginia I was on Picket all day
saturday and had a very good
time I had my Head Quarters at
a house that belonged to a rich
old Farmer I had a good dinner
and suppose at his expence we had
no trouble with the Rebels as they
did not come in sight of the
Picket line. we have very warm
days here and cold nights but we
sleep warm as we have got six W.
Blankets and 2 Rub Blankets
it looks as if we were a going
to have some rain. I will have
to close for this time hoping this
will find you all well give my
love to all I send you some stones
I picked up on the top of the
mountain I dont now what it is
but it will cut glass tell Father
to pay Charles Rices sister $27 of
that mony Dan Pierce sent to
him she will call at the store
after it.
