My Dear Sisters it
is with pleasure that I take my
pen in hand to answer your
most welcom letters one of which
I recieved about a week ago and
the other night before last
and as usual was very glad
to hear from home once more
I was glad to hear that Frank
had enlisted and only wish he
was in our Brigade I would
not like to have him in Co
A. nor any one else as long as
Loomis is in command of the
Co there was a time when
used to use the sabre pretty
handy in the Co as the
heads of some of the boys
will testify and once or twice
I have seen him do worse
at Mechanicsville he drew pistol
to shoot one of the 1
st Mich
boys but found one to meet
him half way there is a
number of the boys here under
guard one for drawing his sabre
to strike Loomis with when
the Lieut was comeing to hit
him and the Orderly sergt
of Co. K. is here for striking
Lieut Ingersoll and two or
three more for like offenses
using sabres and pistols on
the old soldiers is played
out I am glad that I
got a detail here as I dont
have any picketing and only
16 hours duty to do in 8 days
we have 4 relief guards
and have got a pioneer corps
to carrry wood and pitch
tents the Gen has just got
back from Harpers Ferry where
he has been for a day or
too we have not done any
fighting to speak of since
I last wrote, The Gen and
our Brigad with the 2d Mass
Cav went on a reconnoisance
the other day but as the
escort staid here we did not
see the fun there is 4 of
Co A here now Ray Streeter
and G. B. Hathaway are Orderlies
Chet Calvin & myself Guards
Chet was wounded the same
day I was and was 3 moths
that he never left his bed
he has got the ball yet and
will keep it as long as he
lives he is one of the best
boys in Co. A. and only
22 and good looking if
I ever get out of this
war and we are both alive
you will see him up to our
house some time he has got
a farm of 80 acres in Berrien
Co good house teams and
every thing to go to work when
he gets home and he has
made it all him self his father
died when he was a year old and
his mother when he was 5 years
old his has been in two regiments
first in the 65 Illinois then
in the 7
th Mich. they have
offered him promotion here but
he will not accept it he is
determined to serve as a private
in this war I only wish
I was as good a soldier as
he is as there is no more to
write I will say Good Bye
hoping soon to hear from home
I remain as ever your Brother
John K. Fisher
if they alow the soldiers to vote I shall
go for Lincoln every time
