Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga Tenn Sept. 16” 64 Friend Herbert Your favor of the second came duely to hand finding me in excellent and spirits. I am very much pleas- ed to know that your health has so far improved as to allow you to exercise a little and hope ere long your full strength may return.              In looking over the history of your sickness it is plain that you have had a very hard time in it. and now if you should recover in a reasonable length of time we may be thank- full that you have escaped so well, and I trust that I shall be able to reforce with you that affec- tious is good. I am beginning to feel anxious to see you, but the prospect of such an event seems poor. I am much pained to know of your Aunt’s illness Her portion of affliction seems large. I shall endevour to write to her and others of your Folks if time can be obtained: though lately I have had much to do You did not mention William which I wish you would do when ever you write. I received a letter from Miss Snyder a few days since with the regards of herself and sisters to you and a request from Mrs Leonard (formly Winslow) that you continue your correspon- dence with her; to which I made the following reply. I shall write to Mr. Whitworth next week, when I shall mention Mrs Leonard case, to which I am sure he will attend on ac- count of his strict attention to the demands of friendship. I urge you to continue with her for the reason that she is a Ladie of talents and education and her style of construction and manner of thought will always be good besides the general interest she may supply you with. I recommend you to secure such correspondents as for as propruty will permit for the above reasons. No changes have occured in the disposition of the Regiment lately. A quite a number of Recruits have arriv- ed, and been assigned to companies. No more, Yours truly, Wallace M. Probasco Herbert Whitworth                  Co “D” Co “K”
