Dictator May 26 1864
My Dear sister again
I seat my self to write
a few lines to you
to let you know
where I am we was
wakened this morning
a two Oclock and told
to pack and get ready
to join our Regiment
which is again with
grants army we all
feel well pleased to
get a chance to join
the boys again
we have been running
now about 5 hours
and we must be about
50 miles from Washington
by the river we shall
at port Royal there is
250 from our Division going
down by this boat and
more for the 2d and 3
rd
Div by other boats the boat
jars so I can hardly
write at all by the
time this reaches you
I shall again be with
the Co we are now
what we enlisted for
tho we still go by the
name of Cavalry we
have got the repeating
rifles which they promised
us when we enlisted
we now
I do the
most of our fighting
on foot I shall put
in a letter which I wrote
which while at camp
Stoneman and close
if you can read this
you can do better than
I can wishes all well
and a I will say good
bye for the peresent
