Dear Sister
I received your
letter of the 11
th and was glad
to hear from you. I have been quite
unwell since the battle of bull runn
I have got the rheumatism and
have not done any duty for three
weeks, and the doctors sayd wont
do any for three more,
the weather is very bad here now
as the rainy season has just
[ ? ]
in, it has rained for about
a week now steady, and
it is getting to bee quite
sickly, there is more sickness
in camp now than
ever has been before
how I wish I could bee in
newburgh when you came there
what a good time we would
have to it would seem so much
like old times, it has been
some time since we met in
newburgh, but I am in
hopes that the time will come
when we will meet there once
more, then will we recall the
manny happy hours we spent
together, I suppose there has
been a great change in the place
since we met there before
all the young boys and girls have
grown up and got married
and settled down in prosp
=erity prepared to live to
a good old age.
I cant think of anything to
write that would interest
you only that I have been in
a very big fight and got whipped
that we were led into the
field by rebbels, commanded
by rebbels, and whipped by
rebbels, and now that Genl
Scott has been appointed in
place of Horace Greeley and
other political men we are
in hopes that we will have
better success, every thing goes
on quiet about camp there is nothing
happens worthy of note, we
dont have to drill much as there
is a great menny of the men
sick the only duty we
have to do is to go out
on picket guard, our com
=pany was out last night
and came in about two Oc
this afternoon all wet
and cold, this is the life
that a soger leads,
write as often as you can
give my love to all G.W.F.
