Dear Wife
I now seat my
self to write a fiew lines
to as i am on guard to
night i am well at present
and i hope when this reaches
it will find you enjoying
the same blessing. i have been
relieved from the telegraph
office a fiew days ago. and
we have moved camp we are
at Brownsville now three
miles from the station and
we had the worst road to
move over that i ever saw
and we have to move camp
again tomorrow about one
half mile from here. and
there we have to live in
tents but i think it will
soon be warm enough to
stay almost any where
but we are agoing to
have this state in a
very short time now we
have turned over three
hundred of our horses and
we will get the rest taken
away as soon as they are
inspected. we are coming to
St Louis or Memphis and i
do not know which. but
i would as
[ ? ] come home
as to go there. the news
came here to night that
peace was declared but we
do not believe it yet. but
i hope that it is so. and if
it is so we will get home
by the fourth of July.
John tripp was to
a dance a fiew night
ago and he told me that
he asked a girl to dance
with him and she said
she did not know.
and says he does your
mother know.
says she (i reckon) and
she danced with him
he was over here to
night and he has been
to the station and he was
covered all over with
mud he had his team
down. it has been raining
and sleeting all day but
it has stoped now and
the wind blows cold
we have not
got our pay yet and i
don’t think we will get
it until we get up the
river now i must close
for this time for i must
go on guard write as
soon as you get this and
direct as before give
my respects to all no more
at present but remain
your husband
