Ark Feb 6th 1865 Dear Wife I now seat my self to write a fiew lines to as i am on guard to night i am well at present and i hope when this reaches it will find you enjoying the same blessing. i have been relieved from the telegraph office a fiew days ago. and we have moved camp we are at Brownsville now three miles from the station and we had the worst road to move over that i ever saw and we have to move camp again tomorrow about one half mile from here. and there we have to live in tents but i think it will soon be warm enough to stay almost any where but we are agoing to have this state in a very short time now we have turned over three hundred of our horses and we will get the rest taken away as soon as they are inspected. we are coming to St Louis or Memphis and i do not know which. but i would as [ ? ] come home as to go there. the news came here to night that peace was declared but we do not believe it yet. but i hope that it is so. and if it is so we will get home by the fourth of July. John tripp was to a dance a fiew night ago and he told me that he asked a girl to dance with him and she said she did not know. and says he does your mother know. says she (i reckon) and she danced with him he was over here to night and he has been to the station and he was covered all over with mud he had his team down. it has been raining and sleeting all day but it has stoped now and the wind blows cold we have not got our pay yet and i don’t think we will get it until we get up the river now i must close for this time for i must go on guard write as soon as you get this and direct as before give my respects to all no more at present but remain your husband Wm Eaegle Emma A.
