E.W. Curtis Dear Friend
I am just in receipt of yours of 9th of the present month to which I have read with interest. I am well and have been since I left Bridgeport it being two months today.
This Army is in a lively condition as the Rebellion has played out as near as I can get at it Johnson was told to surrender to old Billy as we call him (Sherman) give him 24 hrs. to give up the contest – at the same time orders the 23d, 15th, 14th 17th, with Kilpatricks Cav. to advance on him- also the 20th H.Q. & the first Mich Eng & Mech But he caved in the first day.
Under marching orders – excepting to march to some place for transportation- except a long march of 30 or 40 days. Not pleased with the organization but will defer comment until a more convenient season. Mentions box and they should have kept more for their eating. He will be home in less than 2 months – General Sherman says will be home in six weeks. -wieghs 180 lbs. -sends respects from you friend.
