About the Author

Edwin R. Dunham, of Ionia, Michigan, enlisted in the 1^st Michigan Engineers Company E on August 11, 1864 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He was mustered into service that same day as a 26 year old Private.  Edwin R. Dunham was discharged on June 16, 1865 in Washington, D. C. and returned home to Ionia, Michigan after the war.
