Regiment: 5th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Headquarters Camp Lincoln Hospital 5th Reg’t Mich Cav Volunteers, Comp H Washington Apr 24 1863 Dear Wife It was with the greatest of pleasure that I received your kind & affectionate letter and a paper I got two papers tuesday I am always glad when friday noon comes for I always get your letter then please write the date always of the letter you get from me for you do not say anything about what is in the letter. I do not know if you got the last I wrote. I told you to buy wood & to get some one to wheel the manure & that James Foote could not get is discharge I hope this will find you all well as it leaves me at present thank God for it. I am sorry my Bell was sick but I am real glad she is better. I hope you and baby will have a good time in Detroit. I feel greatley disappointed at not being sent to Detroit but I can put up with it. tell Anthony I wrote to him last week. I should feel miserable if I realy thought that you think I will be angry with you for trying to serve the Lord you are doing right. I try to pray every day and read my bible but I know that it would be harder for me to go forward than it was to enlist. but I hope you will pray for me, I had just has leave that Footes took the old shop. I wish the thing were just in the barn, sign & all if Mr Cranford does as he wrote let us have it. you must not work too hard so as to get sick. I have not got any money yet. I have not a cent of money and I put on the last stamp on this don’t send any for I expect some next week. those berries you sent are nice now that I am in the hospital. A lot more criples came in Sunday night so it is not so lonesome now, it is very rainey now. I do not know of any more news. Kiss the dear children for me tell Joe to be a good boy give my best respects to all the folks. hopeing the war will soon close and that I shall soon. see you all, my best love to you so no more at present from your ever Affectionate Husband Geo.
