Clarkson, George A.

About the Author

George A. Clarkson, of Milford, Michigan, enlisted as a Corporal in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company H on August 18, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 30 at the age of 20. Clarkson was listed as having wounded his spine from falling off his horse and he returned to duty on October 28, 1863. On June 11, 1864, he was taken prisoner at Trevilian Station, Virginia and later paroled. He survived the explosion of the steamer “Sultana” at Memphis, Tennessee on April 27, 1865. George A. Clarkson was discharged on July 5 at Detroit, Michigan. After the war, he lived in Woodmere, Michigan.
