My Mary.
Sunday again. and an
unusually quiet one for those who
follow the Grand Army of the Potomac.
My “Palace” I finished yesterday ready
to live in six months if necessary.
Our Corps Commander found it out
and this morning before I was
up, sent around a circular stating
that we would hold ourselves in
readiness to move on short notice.
within five minutes the roar
of Artillery broke like a death
knell upon my hopes of occu=
pying my aforesaid “Palace” for
the short space of one week. the
firing was rapid and heavy for
an hour or so. then “all was
quiet on the Rapidan.”
I saw a list
of the “Drafted in the Army” at Grand
Rapids in the Eagle L. J. Bates
was one of the blessed L. H. Randall
Geo. W. Waterman Graves of the hard=
ware firm of Foster & Co. Ed. Drew,
and others were among the favored ones
of fortune. I learn by the by
that Baker is having a lovely time
with no intention of ever coming back
Our pay master is in the Brigade
and you can look at the express
office soon for what is good for sore
eyes. especially when one has waited
as long as you have. Osman was
paid yesterday.
I am glad to hear
Mothers has got through to Vermont
I am sure she’ll not wish herself
back this winter.
Please send those Photographs as soon
as you get the money, Did Mother
get that ten dollars I sent her.
My love to all.
Love and kisses to my darling Wife.
My Mary. Gardner
