Regiment: 1st U.S. Volunteers Sharpshooters Battles Mentioned: Chickamauga, Georgia Historical Figures: Camp near Bealton Station November 1st 1863 My Mary. My Own Loved Wife. Yours of Oct. 24th I received some days since. Where we were has slipped my memory. I dont pretend to know in the morning when I get up. Where I am. One day last week the ground was staked off and winter quarters ordered to be built. before daylight the next morning we were packed up and ready to march and did march to near Bealton some eight or ten miles from the Rappa= hannock. The intention does not appear to be to advance any farther at present as they only repair the Rail road to Warrenton which is four or five miles in rear of us. Mother writes she is anxious to see you that you have been runing all over and she has a big letter for you which I suppose is my commission Well take my advice and make the most of a good thing if you think you have got it. In the coming years no one can tell how much of sorrow there may be in store. And I have a philosophy that if one gets in the habit of wearing a cheerful face the storms of life will at the most only cause a shiver. We mustered for pay yesterday and I have been busy for three or four days previous or should have written you It is no small affair and I am glad they come but once in two months. Very likely we will get paid within two weeks. Evening; Yours of the 29th I have just received. I had been watching the reports of the late fight a Chickamauga to see if any of the folks were hurt but could get no tidings. Osman was over today. I think we will winter close together. You speak of your original writing desk. its the same style I am using at present and is like what I do the most of my writing on, only I have not the corner to sit in. I had a letter from your Father a day or two since & claims to be busy and I can appreciate his situation. I imagine you would get my letters oftener at Middlesex My love to all and for yourself Love and kisses Your Own Husband Sis.                              Gardner [On Envelope:] Mrs Gardner B.
