Love Mary.
Grand Rapids.
May 17th 1865 Ten Oclock.
Dear Gardie
Loved Husband.
I went to the
Post Office to-night, but the mail was late and
was not opened, so I did not get a letter from my
boy, to bad, was it not? I think so but I must
certainly get one to-morrow.
It is raining now and the wind blows very cold
after being such a warm day. I do not think it
will be so warm to-morrow. I hope not.
Say Gardie, do you know that there is a little girl
here,
about my size who loves you: there certainly
is and if you was here I would tell you who it
was, but as you are not I will send you a
kisses
and let you
guess?
Next Monday is my birth day, you know,
and I shall be twenty one so look out my
boy for then I can do as I please and I
may do something terrible. I will bet I would
if I was with you aint you glad I am not.
May 18
th That letter was not at the office this
morning so I guess Clarks wife will have to
wait until next time. “Such is life.”
It is almost time to go to the Post Office
so I will try to write a little more and
take this down.
I have had company all the afternoon
so I got no chance to write. Mrs. Ellis and
Amelia Snyder have been here.
O Gardie you cannot tell how I want to
see you, how happy I would be if you
could only take me in your arms and
love me, you will sometime wont you?
You dear boy it seems as though I never
loved you so well. That you grow dearer every
day.
I shall have to close now or not take
this down to-night.
Love & a kisses Ever your Mary.
Gardie love me.
