Regiment: 1st Michigan Light Artillery Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Wheeling Western virginia February 18th/65 Dear Cousin I received your most welcome letter and was glad to hear from you I am getting Better than I have Been.. you say there has Been no marriages lately.. [  ?  ] wait until I come home and you will see a wedding But I cant tell whether it will of any importance or not Perhaps not mutch I will tell you where I spent my Christmas and newyears in Camp I have spent four fourths of july in the army and expect to spend two more if this [  ?  ] war lasts that long But I hope it will not last mutch longer Lucina you say there will Be great refairing when this war is over Perhaps there will But I dont expect their will Be many that will rejoice to see Burlesons fool as they call me here Lucina I would like to be there to get my [   ?   ] pardoned I suppose the young folks are having Big times to the meetings. Lucina I will tell you what was the cause of my Being in the hospital well we were coming through Ohio and we got into a fuss and had a free fight [  ?  ] I had the [  ?  ] to get cut Prety bad I got cut twill through the back once in my left hand but I am getting along fine I laugh with two lietenants Belonging to the fifth Tennissee inft.. I am now in the hospital for the first time since I have Been in the army I have some hopes of coming home in a weak or two Give my love to all friends espessially your father and mother right as soon as you get this soo I will close for fear you will get Dired of reading this poor riting Yours ever Martin L.
