At the age of 21, Private Martin L. Burleson enlisted in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery Batty F on November 21, 1861 at Coldwater, Michigan. He was mustered into service on February 14, 1862 and re-enlisted on March 26, 1864 at Knoxville, Tennessee. Martin L.
