Dear friend Agustust
it is with the greatest of pleasures
that I now take my pen in hand
to write you a few lines that I
am well and in good helth since
the rebels has let mee free thay
tried ther best to starve me to
death but thay found out that
I was determende not to die
enay way so thay seat mee free
I wasent
much ancous to bourd
with them any mour and live
on corn cobe and all and noot
haff enouf of that you must look
oute and not leat the damd

geet a whoult of you if thay do
thay will tell you to give over
your greenbacks and then are good
boots and that good hat of youre
if you hafe aney such things and then
off cums your good cloas and if
you say a woord of cums your
head I was

tweanithfirst of feburary in
ritchmond and cum in to our
lines on the tweanithetseconed
and wee went rite to anoplis
and got our new clos and was
washed all over and then wee
put them on and then thay
payed us our

and then started us for camp
Chase Ohio and thair thay payed
us to monts pay and then thay
started us for home I hafe bin
hear a littel over too weeks and
will soon haf to report back
to camp Chase again unless
I gett my furlow lengthend and
that I am a goin to try and have
done you must looke oute for
them air foneys rebes for thay
just as live kill a yanke
as not if thay cant kill him
thay will try to starve him to
death wee hade a sugar party
hear to Freder last nite
and air goin to have one over
to mister haydens to morow
nite I wish that you was
hear to goo with us you dont
now how much fun wee do
have with the girls but if
wee boath live and gete oute
ofe it all rite wee can have
