Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Benton (St. Louis) 10 1861 Dear Brother I arrived at St Louis on Sonday last with Celie Regerment Cavelry Celie Regiment Past threw adrian last week and I got a chanch to go with them and I thoughit would be beter to go then to fool around with the lancers thar was another felow went with me and when whe got to Laport thay sent a dispatch for him and why thay ditent send for me is more then I know Yesterday I was atament by the Surgent and to day I drawed my horse I had a pick out of 36 horses and you better beleve that I picked a good one tomorrow I shall be sworn in whe have good officers whe have not got our saddles but we’ll git every thing wright a long thare is about 3 Regement of Cavalry drilling here know and lots of Infantry thir Camp was build for Solgers School by Fremont and as fast as thay git drilled thay send them out price is about [ ? ] from here with 50000 men and the reports is round the Camp that Price was marching for this plase but he cant take this plase where well he is [ ? ] well [   ?   ] up Segle is in the rere of him he was here in the city yesterday St. Louis is a hard plase this camp is 4 miles from city Monday thare was 3 Solgers pisent in camp by womans pettlers thay come around to guards and ofering them whisky and that is the way thay catch the boys thay shot a man the other knight dresh in womans close it isnt as mise Country as round Washington more as helthy watter here gives the Solgers shits so dont know of much to wright wright soon and let me know what the lancers say about my disurting them My love to you all and all inquiring Friends Your Brother My adress is                                        Lewis Beagle Lewis Beagle Company M 3 Michigan Cavalry Regement Celie Camp Benton Bar Baracks St Louis MO
