About the Author
George W. Townsend, of Greenbush, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company G on August 14, 1862. He was mustered into service that same day at the age of 38. Townsend was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on November 25 and to Captain of Company I on November 2, 1863. George W. Townsend was discharged for disability on July 15, 1864.Documents for this Author:
