About the Author
Joseph P. Taylor was born on May 4, 1796 in Louisville, Kentucky. He enlisted as a Lieutenant Colonel and Assistant Commissary General in the United States Army Commissary Department on November 30, 1841. Taylor was mustered into service that same day at the age of 45. His promotions included Colonel and Commissary General on September 29, 1861 and Brigadier General and Commissary General on February 9, 1863. Joseph P.
