About the Author
At the age of 19, Russel K. Strickland enlisted as a Private in the 1st Michigan Engineers Company D on October 1, 1861 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was mustered into service on October 29 and was later promoted to Artificer. On February 1, 1864, Strickland re-enlisted and was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant. His other promotion was to 2nd Lieutenant of Company L on April 25, 1865. Russel K. Strickland was discharged from service on September 22 at Nashville, Tennessee.Documents for this Author:
