About the Author

James W. Sharp, from Paris, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 6th Michigan Cavalry Company H on September 3, 1862. He was mustered into service on October 11 at the age of 23. Sharp was listed as a prisoner of war on October 3, 1863 at Brandy Station, Virginia. James W. Sharp died of disease as a prisoner of war at Andersonville, Georgia on July 25, 1864. He is buried at gravesite #3951 at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.
