John S. Perkins, from Berrien County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 6th Michigan Infantry on August 1, 1861 at Niles, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 18 on August 20. On February 23, 1864, Perkins re-enlisted at Port Hudson, Louisiana. He was listed as being promoted to Corporal on October 15. John S. Perkins was discharged from service on August 20, 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana. He died on April 9, 1899 and is buried in Niles, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
