James F. McGinley, of Manistee, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 3rd Michigan Infantry on May 28, 1861 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was mustered into service on June 10 at the age of 28. He was soon promoted to 1st Sergeant and later promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company K on March 15, 1864. McGinley was transferred from the 3rd Michigan Infantry to the 5th Michigan Infantry on June 10. On September 1, he was promoted to Adjutant and then to Captain on October 25. James F. McGinley was wounded on October 27 at Boydton Plank Road, Virginia and he died of his wounds the following day, October 28.Documents for this Author:
