Dear folks at home
I arrived here at 9 o’clock
this morning after having
a verry pleasant trip –
I arrived in Detroit Monday
night at 7 o’clock – and as
I could not see Col. Smith
his office being closed – I
made strate for the boat
bound to go that night
any how – I procured tickets
to Baltimore – and at that
place to Washington at
the same cost that trans
portation would have
cost me – so you see its
just as well – as it wont
have to come out of my
wages – the day is verry
pleasant
I had a verry pleasant
journey – I got a good nights
rest on the boat – The cars
were all clean – and made
no unnecessary delays –
I find a great change in
ward H. the beds are nearly all
vacant – and all of the
old attendants except I have left
Jonathan Front – The rumor
is that Leo has fell back
upon his old ground –
Mrs. Southwick is here looking
verry well – Dinner is now
ready – but I eat my
breakfast up town – Dor
Bowen has gone to Pits-
burgh – Surgeon in Hospital
there – Tomorrow I shall
draw pay for my back
rations – I have fifteen
or Sixteen dollars on me
I have not had time to learn
the Army news yet – but you
will get all the news – and more
besides – You can direct my
letters same as here to fore
and then if I should not
bee here – they will forward
them to me – I may stay here
eight or ten days – but I
cant tell for certain
I think I shall go and see
Tom tomorrow – I presume
that my regt is near or at
Fairfax – some fellows that
were furloughted 20 days
before me – have not returned
yet – You will hear from
me again soon – I have
a poor pen and I want
to finish this for the
[ ? ]
I arrived here sooner than
I expects – Write soon
one and all – and I will
guarantee that box 628 wont
be empty a great while at
a time
Yours in Haste
