Dear wife it is with pleasure that isit down

letter of the 16 this morning and was glad to
hear that you was all well iwas sorry to
hear that you had not got the money that
isent you iam afraid that you will never get
it if you dont ishal be afraid to send any
more unless ican get to some office whare
ican express it through but iwill try
to get it to you some way dont put
much dependance in my getting home
this winter for it is verry uncertain but
ishal try all ican but thare will
be but few furloughs given this winter
ithink it is verry quiet along the lines
to day thare is verry little picket fireing
and not much shelling but thare has
been verry heavy canonading to the right
but we have not herd the result yet
but we expect it will be favorable
for we dont get no unfavorable
news here lately for Sheridan and Sherman
are araising the devil with the rebs while
we lay here adoing nothing but
guarding the lines in front of petersburgh
but that is something that must be done
and it is apretty hazardous work to hold
Clark Chapman is well and so is miller one
week from to morrow is election and iexpect
that that will turn out favorable to and
thare is no doubt but what it will
iam on guard and have but little time
to rite so imust bring my letter to a
aclose this from your affectionate husband
George Phelps to his beloved wife
