Dear wife it is with pleasure
that inow sit down to rite a few
lines to you to let know that iam
well at present and hope thes few
lines may find you the same
when irote last iwas in the woods
but thank god iam ou of the
wilderness for the last ten days ihave
often thought of the 8 chapter of
mathew and the 20 verse for ihad
no spot but the frozen ground
to lay my bones on but to day
Chap and me ware both transfered
to the ambulance train whare
we dont fare much to do thare we
dont have no fighting and when
the rest of them are fighting we are
to the rear and we dont have no
gun nor knapsack to carry and
Chap is sargent so he has a horse
found him to ride but ihave to go
on foot but idont mind that as long
as idont have any thing to carry nor
no fighting to do ihave not received
my pay yet nor dont expect to until
next month igot a letter from
Mary Loomis and two from home
while iwas on the raid and it done
me more good to get a letter then
than two would in camp we
had just got anew shanty built
and ready to live in when iwas
detailed into the ambulance train
but iwas perfectly willing to lea
my new shanty icant tell you
anything about the result of the
raid for ihave not learned yet how
it come out only that the 5 corps
got whiped and ihave no news to
rite about the prospects of peace
but it looks rather unfavorable
give my respects to all my friends in
