Regiment: 24th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Abraham Lincoln, George B. McClellan Camp 24th Mich Vols Near Weldon RR Nov 8th 64 Col. Henry A. Morrow Dear Colonel I received my commission as Capt. about a week since and have been duly mustered and now allow me to express to you my sincere thanks for this new token of your kindness + the trust and responsibility which you saw fit to place in my charge I think that I also appreciate in part the oblige- tions I am thereby placed under toyou personally my Co. Regt. and Country and let me here assure you that I shall endeavor looking toyou and my superior Officers for Counsel and admonition to discharge my duty in such manner that you may never have occation to regret the disposition of said trust I not only feel a pride in my promotion but also feel the weight of responsibility attached to it Election passed off very quietly and pleasently the following is the role of our Brigade 24th Mich Lincoln 176 McClellan 50 Lincoln Maj. 126 2687 Wis  Lincoln 366 McClellan 67 Lincoln Maj. 299 143 Penn. Lincoln 189 McClellan 100 Lincoln Maj. 89 149 Penn. Lincoln 188 McClellan 102 Lincoln Maj. 86 Total Role 1238 Lincoln 919 McClellan 319 Total Lincoln Maj. 600’ With two or three exceptions no one but recruits voted for McClellan in our Regts. They find soldiering rather unpleasant at first as a natural consequence and as is for the Chicago Conventions theory of peace but I believe that in the end if McClellan was elected which is an utter impossibility they would regret the practical results of the Chicago Platform The health of the Regt is excellent We have a nice camp, good log cabbins and evry thing comfortable. Capt. Bur [  ?  ] left for home on the 6th [  ?  ] on a leave of fifteen days Nothing of importance has occurred in military matters [  ?  ] since out saw reconnoisance to the left. I shall be pleased to hear from you – at your leisure. Once more thanking you for your kindness I subscribe Your Grateful Sevt. Geo. A. Ross Capt. Co F
