A Baltimore Dec. the 20th 1861 Dear Cousin Carrie I received yours of the 15 today and it is useless to say that I was just as glad as ever to hear from you and that is very glad indeed. Well Carrie, I am back in the City of Baltimore             and I am none the sorry for it you may bet for I be goin to get tired of marching. Well we will not have any more to do for three months. We got orders that we would stay here for three months or 90 days and their I do not know what they will do. I suppose that they will do as they have been doing and that is nothing. Well let them rip. We will well enough this Winter for they have got our           about done and then we will be all right. We don’t have to drill a great deal now for              is a great of the boys on guard and working on the barrix. Carrie have you had any cold weather in Michigan. We have just as nice weather as we can ask for. We have not seen a bit of snow here. We have had some frost. Carrie you said you was much obliged to me for that cotton. Carrie you are entirely            Well I have wrote about all that I can think of. Your must excuse this bad writing for this is the fourth letter that I have wrote today so give my love to all and goodbye. Write soon. From your cousin John S. Perkins
