G. 4th Mich In Murfreesboro Tenn Dec. 28th 1864 Dear Mother We have bean here since the 23th waiting for transpotation to go an join the 4th army core we were put in the 20 when we first came here butt that has feel through I think we will join Thomas, we have packed up twice in three days and we are here yet. We had a dull Chrismas here we sent oute a foregin party and expected to have a good Dinner they got lots of Chickins and Butter but they had hardly got in camp before an order came to be ready to move at 7 P.M. the next morning so the chickins were sold to the men at cost. I will have the box here in time for New Years if all that is in it is not spoilt the road will be in runing order tomorrow I hope Ather Pierce got a letter to day saying that mr Obrian was dead I am sory to here of his death it will be a great loss to the Church. Lieut Henry sent in his resegnation to day he will be home in about 20 days I will send my Picture by him he will stay with you one day he sayes when he gets to Pontiac, I received 2 Papers to day that have been 14 days coming I am looking for letters every day but non comes I received a letter from Frank R. yesterday. We are having very bad weather here at present it rains a little almost every day and keeps the roads very muddy we have got good Quarters the way we make a house here when we in camp the first thing we do is to finde some brick and make a fire place and then we bet some bords and board up aboute three feat and put on a roof with oure tent and we have a house good enough for any one. I ame the only officer in oure company at Present Capt Henderson is sick yet but he is geting beter Lt Henry is also sick all the men we cam turn oute for duty is 40 oute of 71 the rest are all sick James Whittemore has joined the Regt. he has bean sick for a month Ather Pierce is sick he is in Camp but he dont do any duty. Wooster the man that deserted at Adrain has arived here I think we will get some more men before long that deserted, the 3d Regt is going with us when we goe I think we are going some where to go into winter quarters I hope we will for we have moved around enough I dont think we will have any more fighting to do this winter this is all I have time write this time for we have to go out and drill.
