Dear wife I now seat myself
to write these few lines to you
and hope they will find
you well for they leave me
in good helth Sina i have
Not had any letter from
you in A long time but
i will say it may be
on the Acount of the
rail rod being burt but
others git some from ther
homes but if it ant for
me to her from home i
will put up with it and
wait for you to write before
i write a gain sina the rebs
have come back here a gain
but our men can cleen
them out a gain if they
try to come in here or
any such a thing old
sherm has whiped whood every
time sence they left here and
tore his Armey all to peases
Now he sais he will kill the
last reb before he leavs them if
they dont give up now and so
he will for they are cut
up so Now they fly like beas
before our armey this dam
wore cant last much longar
Now Sina i have drown
my pay and cant send
it home Sina look out for
the express offic for when it
opens i will send it it ant
safe in letters so i will express

Sina i was out on a forig
experdition and come in
last nite i was gon for 5
days we went a bout 40
miles from here and the
rebs pitched on ous and we
gave them hel but i was
in the titest plase i every
was in my life had to
leave my horse and take
to the woods for life the
they got my horse but
hol came out all rite by
travling 3 days and nits
they fired many shots after
me they got meny of
the Gang that was with
me they was on every side
of ous so no one knew
which way to run but i
was one of the lucky ones
and got a way by taking
to the woods they was in 4
rods of me
