Regiment: 11th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Murfreesboro, Tennessee Historical Figures: Murfreesboro tennessee January the 9th..1863 To Herman and Emeline I will write a few lins again to you ishould have writen sooner if ihad been whare icould ihave been in one of the hardest battles that has ben fought in this war it lasted..10..days that was a large number of our men killed and wounded three was kiled in my company idid not get hurt idont know why idid not as the balls flew thick and fast in every direction We covered the ground with butternuts for miles around thay fought madly and desperately but our arms was the best and we beet them though at [ ? ] cost isaw the regament that luther was in in the thickest of the fight it was badely cut up ihave not seen luther since one of the boys of his company told me that he was wounded in the shoulder but not dangerously icant go whare he is now isee him quite of ten before the fight it rained every day of the fight amost the dead laid eight days some of them before thay was bueryed and the butternuts is not under ground yet all of them the number of killed and wounded will never be known thay covered the ground every whare we went it is quite warm here now ihave ben well all the time We had no tents any of the time and laid in the rain but thare was so much fighting to do that no one was sick that dried fruit that you sent was exelent and iwas much obliged for it ishal [ ? ] some of it to day ishal have to stop writing now direct you letters as before Good by now Charles Wilson
