Regiment: 22nd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Ella Bishop Lexington March 19th 1863 Much respected friend Harriet I take this opportunity of writing to you in answer to the one I recived the 15th of this month. I began to think you had forgotten me for you did not write in so long a time. I am well at present hopeing these few lineswill find you well and enjoying youself as well as possible. You said you would like to have me attend your last days school. I wish eo to then I would have a chance to see some of my old schoolmates once more but there is no use of wishing that wont make us eny nearer to geather I sometimes sit here in the tent thinking of the comforts I once enjoyed and now on the account of this cursed war I am deprived of them. That makes me mad enough so if onley had the power I would tare down the whole southern confederacy. Well Harriet to day it is raining a verry little just enough so we cant drill, but there has been some of the nicest weather I ever saw the citizens around here has got all their gardens planted and the peach trees are almost ready to blossom. There is not meny orchards in Kentucky, but when you find on it is pretty large I know of one that has 80 acres in. That I call a large orchard. Well I dont know as I can think of much more at presant there is a good meny sick at the presant time but I hope they will soon get well so that they can do duty for it is hard for them that is well to do the whole. Harriet I wish we could have the fun over again that we had one year ago last Christmas I should think Charley would remember that day if he ever remembered eny thing. I know i shant forget it for one while and I guess you wont neither. Hattie I want you to send me your picture if you will then I will send you mine before a great while. I want to see how your face looks once more then I wont forget how you look.
