As it is Sunday evening I thought that I would answer your letter of the 1
st and
8
th which I received at Murfreesboro but did not have time to answer it until now.
It is a fine evening, the moon is shining bright. The weather here is generally wet.
It rains more than half the time so you can guess that it is nice living out of
dores. I was very glad to hear from you. It was six months yesterday since had pay.
We expect to get some soon. We also expect to have a fight here soon. If we do
I will wright after the battle if I dont get laid away. They expected in attack
today, but they did not come to the rack. If they do we will have a dance. I saw
George Wolverton and Dan Hamilton sinc and Hank Britton. They thought that they
had seen about as close work with the rebels at the battle of Stone river as they
cared about. They thought the balls came pretty thick and I guess they did, for
they were in a prety tight place. George looks pretty well. I almost forgot to
tell you that I herd preaching to night. It is the first time since I can remember.
The three Sabaths before this we were on the march. You said in your letter that you
heard that Stuerd Rosegrant was ded, he died at Gallitin, Tenn. in the hospital.
This will be bad news for his family.
I think you have fine times there sleigh riding with paroled soldiers. I
think that I will hav to get paroled and go home on a visit. My health is good. I
hope you can say as much. John is sick at Louisville, Ky. but he is getting better.
I must close this letter for it is getting late and we will have to go out scout-
ing tomorrow morning early and I must get some sleep
