Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: St. Louis 1861 Camp Benton Dec. the 25 respected friend It is with pleasure that I take up my pen to adress you. I hope you will excuse my tardy ness. I have been quite busy and they say better late than never. My health has been good since I came here and I hope this will find you the same. Our swords were not good and they are going to be sent back and we will have rifles. They are shoeing the horses and I think that soon as we get out arms and our horses shod we will march farther south. We have very nice weather here. This has been rather a dull Christmas it is so mudy. My Christmas dinner was roast beef and bread and watter. My supper was bread and meat and coffee. When our horses are inspected there will be some of them thrown out. There has two died out of our Company and there is three or four more that will go home after pay day which will be the first of January. It is geting late and I am on guard to night so I must close. You must be shure and answer this directly for I will be selfish enough not to give you as long as I have taken. So I will wish you a happy New Year, bid you good by and close from your friend Thomas Wasson Ps Direct your letter to Thomas Wasson Co. C second rejiment Mich.
