Dear Uncle
Your letter of the 2nd of the month
came to hand on the 12
th and it was the first news of
of any kind I had since the 28
th of August from
home but I found by reading it that there is some
letters I never got we left Rankin ferry on the 8
th of
the month and came to this place it seams like going
home to get back here once more Gen. Shermans army
has been passing through here two days now going on to
the front they look fine in good condition and have
been 42 days on the march since they left Vicksburg the boats
wer running up the Tenn. River ever since the 28
th of Oct. and
this gave relief to the troops at Chattanooga you need not
have any fear of of our men getting drove out of it any
more ther is a report going round now that if this regt will
reenlist under Colonel Cambel that they will send us all
home till spring but whither they will do it or not I do not
know but I think that there is a good many of them will
reenlist anyway Government pays 402 dollars bounty for
all who will enlist for three years longer but onley to those
who have served two years already so I cannot come in
yet a while I got a letter from Lib bareing date the 20
th of Oct
the next day after I got yours whitch was the first
I knew of Tommy and Net being sick I was somewhat
surprised to here that you did not get all the money I sent you
I sent $50 by express from franklin Tenn on the 1
st of
June I then sent $20 and Thomas sent 30 being in all
$50 about the 12

addressed to W.D. Foster Grand Rapids Mich. we also
have got a letter from Mr Foster in whitch he acknowledges
the receiveing the money all right and all of the rest of
the boys that sent money herd from there and it all went
