Morgan January the 24th 1863 it is verry fine wether here to day the birds ar singing as if it was spring and the sun shines quite warm but it is very muddy under foot we ar going to move camp to day down to the depo so we will be within a fiew rods of the depo Telegraph Office and the express office and whare we can get the mail evry day this town is about as large as Berlin only the Buildings ar better when Morgan went through this state he payed New haven a viset but there was to many troops for him and he got whiped out but the rebbels threw shels into the town and tryed to burn the town down one of the shels struck in the hotel in the back part of the house they threw there ded in to the river to keep our men from knowing how many there was of them and there wonded the left on the ground they threw two peres of there artilery in the river to but the wer got out all right Wright soon and let me know something about the taxes the latest letter I had from home was dated the 11th of last month With Love to all I remain Yours John Wasson
