Regiment: 23rd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Sept 23th 62 Dear Wife I received a letter this morning from net and I was glad to hear that the folks was well I am well and injoy myself well but I would be much better if I could see my family once in a while but I hope that you will be as contented as possible until I return and I hope that that wount be long we are expecting a heavy battle here every hour you would be astonished to see the troops coming in every day They every (average) from 5 to 8 thousand a day we are in camp on the Ohio river right oposit of Louisville Kentucky we are in Jeffersonville indiany I want you to rite and let me know if you received the money that I sent you I want you to send me your likeness and the babs let me know about the money I have sent 50 dollars I sent 20 in one letter and 30 in another and I will send you all the money I get onley what little I want to use for my comfort for we have to buy [ ? ] when we are going from one place to another for we have to use hard bread and we buy a little for a change I have not time to rite mutch more so I will come to a close by biding you good buy When you rite to me direct your letters to George Vanvalkenbugh 23 rigement michagan int Army of Kentuckey Co K Cincinnati Ohio this likeness is from me and one of my company He is one of the best fellows in the world he is from flint and leaves a family
