Regiment: 23rd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Bowling Green Nov. 12th 62 Dear wife I received a letter from you last sunday and one from Edna and mariah and was very glad to hear from you all for it had been three weeks sence I had a letter from any of you. We have ben on a long march and did not get the male we hae marched 215 miles and onley rested 5 days on the rout 0 if the folks down there could onley see the country that we have passed throughe the thoughts of the war would make them sick the whole country in one vast waste you can travel miles and not see a fence the houses are deserted the windows are broken and the country is all a commons The last three days we marched through the hansomist country I ever saw if it onley had some of our northern men to work it it would be a young paradise but as it is now it looks bad we are now at Bowling green and the talk is that we will spend the winter here they are making peperations to that efect at any rate and if so you will receive letters from me more regular it has ben over three weeks sence I have riten but I had had no chance for when we are on the march we have no time to rite I am well and have ben all the time with the exception of one day I had the ague but that was the last I hope that this letter will find you and the baby well and the rest of the folks the same tell my father and yours to rite to me as often as they can I would like to hear from them and the rest of the folks tell general mansfield that I should like to have him rite to me and also Bigford It seems to be the general opinion of the oficers here that this war will be closed up by next spring and if that should be so it will not be long before I shall see my family and friends I want to If the things has got to yet if not rite to Seely and tell that you want them I left them all boxed up and he was to take them to hooly and ship them I shall have to stop riting for it is so dark that I cannot see to follow the lines now what I am riting I will try and rite another soon but I shall have to close for this time by biding you good bye direct you letters to Bowling Green 23 Mich Inf.
