Regiment: 23rd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Sunday May 24, 1863 Mr. Van Valkenburgh, Permit me (although nearly a stranger) to write a few words to you and if you think them worthy of an answer I should be glad to receive it. The Dr. and I have read quite a number of your letters so it seems as if we were some acquainted. Your Em says she often writes about me. I hope I shall have the pleasure of meeting you. Em would like to see you as much as anybody in this world. We have great times a visiting. I think if Dr. Em you and I were together we could have gay times. Allie is agreed we would write. Em said we could talk but as for writing she knew we never would. I guess she will be surprised when she see this. I am going to show it to her. Mr. Van I agree with you about the rebels I do sincerely think if we had burned their places and killed every rebel this rebellion would have been wiped out long before this. I’ll bet they would burn everything and kill every person if they could get north. I wish I was a man and a General now but I might fail. We all can talk come nor a Democrat I cannot agree with either, but I don’t say much. I don’t think it looks well for a lady to be great polititian. Nel Burdick is a great one She can talk anyone blind. Perhaps I am talking against you but it is just what I think. I think a great deal of your little girl. She is smart She calls me Merma and the Dr. Doctare. I must have room for Allie Yours truly. Mrs. Dr. A. C. Bordwell.
