Dear Brother & Sister
I recieved your letter of the
17th yesterday & was glad to
hear that you were well.
I am well as usual & hope
this will find you the same
well I am sorry that
Rickard was torn so bad
I would like to had it got
home all right but lit it
go. I will get another one
the first opertunity
Well John I have not got
my money yet but expect
to every day when I get
it I will get a check on
the assistant tresury at
New York of one hundred
& ten dollars & express it
right to you & you can
take up the Note & pay my
taxes
I dont think that I can
get a furlough before March
but John if you can get
along any way in the world
without selling your land
dont sell it. I will help
you if you cant keep it
without. It will be good
to fall back on if anything
should happen to you.
I guess that you & i can
make some arrangements so
you can get along when
I get there. If we can agree
perhaps we will work for
each others interest as long
as I am single & I do not
intend to be otherwise until
I can get my living easy
you better keep that house
on your land & rent it so
as it will pay interest &
taxes so it wont be any
expence to you. You need
not send me any stamps
before I come home. Will
I cant write much this
time. It is pleasant weather
here it seems like may at
home give my respects to
all the folks except a share
for yourselves & write soon
& all the news & oblige
your Brother & well wishes
