Dear Brother
I recd your welcome
letter dated Nov 19th this
morning and was glad to
hear from you I am well
as usual and hope these few
lines may find you all the
same I am glad to hear
that you have got your house
up I hope you will have
the good luck to finish it
I wish I could comply
with your wishes But I
haint got 5 dollars to my
name. We have been expecting
our pay for the last month
but we have not got it
yet and I dont know
when we will get it
John if I can get out of
this company I will go into
the Regular cavalry where
a man will get what is
due him we never have
drawn full rations since
we have been in service
through the neglect of our
officers and we cant draw
any pay for it for our
comisary has kept no
account of it whatever
I t costs a man all his
wages to live half way
decent I will send you
some money when I get
my pay I got a letter
from Lewis this morning
I will answer it shortly
we had a hard thunder
storm last night
it did rain like h–ll
the water was 6 inchs deep
all over the ground but it
is all off now it appears
to me that you have some
smart men on the goungman
dicker up in michigan
I think that one night is a
pretty short time to do such
a job as that (dont you)
I should not wonder if I
joined the Regulars: for
they have better times than
we do. They have to do
their duty: officers and all,
you must excuse my short
letter Give my love to all
my friends and write soon
