Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Sep 7th 1864 I am sorry to tay that me have no mail yet but some of the trains do pass as one past to the North to day verry heavy loaded with a rigement going thome as there is a great many that is going home now I would like to now how you get along with your draft I do not hear any thing only as some for subestutes is paying one thousand dollars for Wayne County I supposed that you have got hup your quot before this and the people is regoising verry much on the capture of Atlants and Mobeal but the have spoiled hour communication for hit as been stopped one week to day and we have had no through train yet but our Oporater saies that there ware a order given for the trains to run through last night or to day but they have not as yet do that makes me in Hurrey to rite this letter for it will not go as yet and I look for a letter when they mail does come in as I think that we ar in shape as we have got they rebbs in both sides of us and we are in the middle of them and I expect that we shall have to stay for one while I have maid up my mind fully to be hat home this fall but I do not expect it now as I look at the things the tings do look verry faverable in every thake and manor but not for us the come home as came hout last janusry but as I always say we must have patience and wate and it will hip round as I think that the worst of our time is over for being sick as when the rigement first came out it lost a great many and only got this four more year and we have come right through in one sumor and we have been in the hottest part this summer and we have not lost so many and I think that it will slip away quccker after this year and the old boys do get a way from us before there is one thing that I do want you to answer me it the North side of the house does leak much and if it does there must be a few shingles got and it must be fixed before the fall rains come on I only mean to pach it with some comon shingles for if I do not sell as I want I am determined to have it shingled and a new cornide on Pralis next summor or spring or I may take a notion to let it stand tell I come home I have heard that grant as coled for one Hundred thousand more and then he can stop the rebb ion if that can only be true and he do as much as they say that we have done at the Cumberland for they have been driven a long ways and huch plases as no one could of though they could ever of fetch a army of men out off now this I have sem all they way as we have comed and we have been following the Army ever since we left Nashville last spring and we have been working along the railroad all they time fortifing it they say that they are wating till the election all our company if well in great sperite with the exception of three or four and there is some great talk with the old recruits about coming home and when when thir time will be hout we have had [illegible line, faded] came in but to day + yesterday I think is as warm as any that we have had this summor I can take my close and squeese Water out of them any ware when it is so hot I do not feel well I do see the time a great many time that I would give five dollars for a bottle of pain killer but it is of nouse I could not get it for to ten dollar bill there is everry undersement for a mom to spend money or rather through away but to buy any that is need full it cant be done and those that as got it will not part with it they are afarid that they will be out them selfes you must excuse me fo riting with a pencil as I have sent my Pen to Louisville [  ?  ] to be fixed so I have to do the best as I can am not as I will
