Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: 1864 Flint River Alabama May 22 To Miss Clark I received your letter to night as I sent you one to day and I sent you one last week as I sent you all the news as I know on and I am glad to hear that the children is well and going to school and I received a paper to night datid May 2nd and was glad to received I have ben trying to send one to Cap for this two or three weeks but we cant get any and I am glad that you got a good cow I expected that she would be but Taft did not do right you say that you did not get that 6 Dollars from Clark did he say he did not ho it if I understand you you say that Lawson wants two Dollars for Ironigig of the weelbarrow you tell him that it was 14 shilings and tell him if he charge you two dollars as I say so you say you dont feel much like riting but I can answer a letter even get up in the middle of the night and rite right of at any time some time I have rote two or three a week and never less then one and I am glad to hear that you have got the garden all planted you say that you think as you are doing your duty I have no dout but you are and I feel glad of it to now my good woman how haft did I ask you to let that woman alone to me for I ware as inscentas James is I told you that I could not stand it I would of not of been hear for one hun dred dollars her month but I must make my best of it how and I hope and trust to god that I can see you a live once more and I think there is every chance yes I remember the words that past verry well I do not forget much and when I went out of the door I expected to do it at that time but I did not and if I live to se you I will tell you all about it you say you want [   ?   ] send you home my likeness I told you in one of my other letters that I would and I will do so as soon as I can but I do not now when that will be we are 159 miles from Nash ville it may be soon or not very soon but as soon as I can but I think that I cant by the forth of july but I cant tell but if I can I will you say that you got a letter from Uncle was it my uncle or your uncle for I rote to my uncle the first one I rote to and I have received no answer if it is from mine I wish you would mail it to me you say docter wants you to give the cow to him you do no such thing at all I do not care wat he will call it at all for you want the cow your selfe you say that you got a new boilor and it cost 6 dollars I think you cant have much money left wat kind of a bedsted did you get or was it a new one I supose not with only lost 2 ½ dollars you say that you are sorry that I did not get that box of pills + comb and I am verry sorry for I want them very bad but I expect they are lost but do not send no more till isay so do I think that I have no more to day at preasant only that miss Cramer sent me word that you all ware well her Brother is our orderly segt I did not no him before he told me of it so no more from yours + well wisher William Slater First Michigan Engineers + Mechanicks Nashville Tenasee P..S how you rite as often as I do Wm Sr
