To Miss Clark
As I being lonsome in camp alone
I though I would amuse my selfe
by sending a few lines to you and
hoping they will find you and the
children all well Mr. Van told me
about taft I expected it I supose
that they think that you have no right
only pay just wat they say but thank
God I do no it all and why not a man
[ ? ] wat is some ware right I am sorry
that it apended so as Mr Van to have
any words with him I only ope that
he does beleive me for it is the truth
if ever I spohe the truth and you no
time thing about it but I new verry
well that I could not get off it oping
it is all over and it is all
[ ? ]
and I expecp that it will keep so
for you now if they get a man down
kick him and let him go lower if I
had been at home it would have been sett
led before this and there is a nother
thing I hear that you got a ring but
not how it fit you I do not supose that
we can get any shells hear for we cant
go out and see for it is a verry bad
country round hear two miles from
as the rebbs cought a train of fifty
cars and burnt them they ware lead
ed with rations for the soldiers it
is estimated a loss of halfe million
dollars but I have learnt no view
statement as I sent to you for a
casstle if you have got one do not
send it yet if you have not done for
to day I draided your comb a way for
a casstle and do not send me no more
coambs unless I send for them I
[ ? ]
one that I paid ten cents for in Detroit
that fitts my pocket book as I would
not
[ ? ] for one dozen like that
you must excuse me for I have got
some water standing besides me in the
floor and my paper as flone in it and
I must give you great thank for my
new hat it is a first rate one and
everyone likes it a five dollar hat
is no ware be the side of it now you
must mind and be cotious and not
let the supervisor catch your for if he
stops your pay I shall to you keep your
selfe to your sife and do not make
your selfe to Buissey with other people
about my buisness by no one and you
can try and fight along with the pig
and kill him hearly and you will
find that it will be for better thents
sell it and I cant emagin wat you
are going to do with the cow through
the winter if I could only buy a small
stable andy I would like it verry much
or buy a lot of some disserrption
or you must get Mr Van to get
her kept with some Honest farmer
all winter for if she be a good cow
and a nise one I beg of you not to
part with her upon no consideration
for that ware the reasion as I wanted her
and may it be ly a nother winter we
can have a plase for her some ware there
is no telling about things and I think
you might see Mr Van and let him
get you potatoes and such stuff as you
want from the farmers as I persume
they how in and will let him have it
before you and you be sure and pay
him for when I come home I do not
want bills standing against me
I would like to no how you get along
with Perrin and if you trade there
or not and wat they say I rote to him
some time a go but I received no
answer from him as yet and he
owed me fifty cents as I had forgot
for they do not need to think as I for
got and I want to ask you if you
are going to send your likeness now
or no with your fine fish. Shelling
on if I can get mine took I shall have
my new hat on it but you must not
get next at my talk for I told you how
I rote and I cant see you to fall hout urh you
good buy yours William Slater
