Dear Sister
I haven’t received
any letter from you in over
a week I guess nearly two
weeks or quite so I thought
I would try and write one
to you to let you know
that I had not forgotten
you if you had one I am
well yet and hope this may
find you the same I have
been up the river a gan
since I have had a letter
from you and come back
and gone part way to
the front and back the
I suppose I must tell you
what a time we had going
to Maritta
we have been
expecting to go to
the front for some time
back but at last we got
orders to go the first of the
month we took the cars
in the after noon and
got started at six we
traveled
[ ? ] midnight
and got as far as Dalton when
the captain got a telagraph
dispatch to return so they
hitched the engon on the
other end and started back
we got back to Chattanooga just
day light so that ended
our march for that time I
don’t know how long we
will have to stay here but
most like ly we wil have
to stay quite a whill I am
a fraid so any way for I
had a good deel rather go to
the front for I am
tired of staying here and so
is most all of the boys
part of the company have drawed
new tents we was to work all
day yesterday fixing up camp a gan
we hav got it fixed up pretty
good now if we should have
to stay Choney Parmiter arived
here the other day in the way
to his regament he looks first
rate I think
the news came in the paper
to day that Atlanta was
taken but the particulars
was not known I hope it
is so for they have been fight
ing for it a long time the
news came also that Fort
Morgan had sarendered I think
here is a pretty fare prospect
of getting mobile if that is
so I would like to
hear that Richmond is
taken. when you write
please tell me if you have
ever got that pen that I sent
you if you haven’t I guess
I will have to send another
one when we get paid of a gan
which will be in a little while
I guess I sent mother and
Nettie each a pin they wasent
very nice they were the first
I ever made I have been thinking
of makeing you one one of these
day when I can get a good
shell I haven’t got much
more room and I guess I had
better fill that up in scalding
for I think you need a good one
for not writing oftener write
soon and remember I am your
affectionate friend and well
wisher G.W.S.
