Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga Tenn October 4th 1864 Dear Sister Mett I received your kind letter dated the twenty first and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well I am well as usual and enjoying my self as well as I can under the circumstances I received a letter from Nettie to day and was very sory to hear that mother is so sick but I can only hope that she will soon be better I should like to be to home now very much to see mother and get acquainted with Uncles Sabin and Norman but it cant be and so I must be contented with thinking and hearing from you all I think of home and you a great deel and the times we used to have during our short acquaintance I don’t know as I ever had as good a time in my life on the same length of time did not we have one or two good sleighrides especialy one night come my home from lisban and going for that matter but I like it a little the best comeing home but all I can do now is to think of times past and gone and wonder if I shall ever have such times a gon I would give a one final to see Mary I bet it is getting so dark I shall have to stop till candle light or in the morning Wednesday Morning How are you this morning and how is mother better I hope it is a clowdy morning and has the appearance of more rain it rained pretty hard last night and I was glad I wasent on guard I don’t know hardly what to write this morni -ng we haven’t any news of importance laitly the twenty first have gone out after Wheeler he is some where between here and Nashvill he has burnt the elkriver bridge that is the reason we haven’t had our mail for the last week they were a fraid to send it I hope they will corner him and serve him as they did Morgon. I hope it will be so you can go to school this fall and may be it will be so you can I am sure I will do all I can for you and I am sure I will radily excuse you for not writeing oftener if it cant for I am sure and had not ought to quarrel a bout it so we will make up friends and not quarrel till the next time tell Mary I think it is a bout time she answered my letter if she haint forgotten me and if she has just remind her that thare is such a being yet please write soon and remember you always have my kind wishes hopeing for the best [  ?  ] good by George [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
