Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: 1864 Chattenooga March 7th Mett I received your letter dated the 18th and was very glad to hear from yo and to hear that you was well I am well at present I was very glad to get a letter from you I had been wanting a good while I began to think I was not a going to get one I received a letter from Nettie the other day she said her school was out I supose she is glad enough of that we are a haveing pretty good times now we have to work a bout every day though but that is nothing we don’t have to over work I received those papers one of them day before yester day and the other to day I got the last story first but read it all right when I got the other one I was very glad to get them I think it is a first rate story I would like to get one every week or two they would come first rate we have been haveing a few days of fine warm weather but it is raining a little now I don’t think we will have cold weather to a mount to much this winter I supose father is make ing lots of sugar by this time I would like to be thare a little while to get some warm shu gar it has ben warm enough for shugar making ever since I have been her with the exceptions of a few days you must excuse me if I write a short letter this time I cant think of any thing to write my stuck of news is all run out and always was I guess in the form of letter writing. Sabin is well and full of fun the rest of the boys  are all well excep Frank Wells he haint got over the measles yet but he is getting better now I went to a negro meating yesterday I supose they thought they was doing some tall preaching but I could not see it they done pretty well considering thare is white preaching every Sunday while I am writing I will have to tell you a little incadent that happened at church lost thanks giveing that was before our men took the town the Rebs was holding a thanksgiving meating when whiz come a [  ?  ] ball from one of our guns right through the house just over their heads they skedalled out I guess not very thankfull I cant think of any more nonsense this time so I will enclose a ten dollar to make it all right so good by for this time write soon George [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
