Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Nashville Tenn July 20th 1865 Dear Mett I just received your letter of the twenty fourth and was more than glad to hear from you and to hear the you and the folks were well and to hear our money was all right for it is the hardest earnt money I ever had two fifty belong to Sabin and two fiftys to me , we are still in the barracks and trying to pass a may the time as best we can I am [       ?       ] yet but not much sick the dr says my lounges are effected some thare is some talk of getting home before long [  ?  ] I am a fraid it is all talk thare is a good of talk that we are going before or by the midle of next week I hope we will for I am getting tired of solgering in time of peace it is such dull business I never was so much discontented since I have been in the army and I cant help eather but I am on a worse than the rest of the boys for they all want to get home as had as I [  ?  ] or get out of the army any way, I have been down to town to day to Church and herd a splendid choir then I went down to the Sewane house, with other members of Co. D and took dinner I had a first rate dinner paid a first rate price for it and came back to the barracks and found a letter waiting for me from you and I was more than glad to get one for I haint had one in a good while I haint had one any may direct from home since I left Washington and I began to think they had forgotton me I would like to be thare to visit with Aunt Calista first rate. I bet time passes slowly a way we have been all most a month in Nashville and I am quite competent we wont have to stay another month. I herd to day the tenth Cavelry was comeing here in a few days on their way home I believe I would all must be tempted to apply for a furlough if I thought I would get one thare is twelve or fourteen of our company gone home on a furlough now Jerome Huntly for one he lives at Berlin Myron C. is acquainted with him, I haven’t much more room nor much more to write so I guess I will stop for this time. now do write often and long letters good by for this time yours truly George [On Envelope:] Maryette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co
