Dear Met
Seeing I have
not herd from you in some time
I thought I would commense
a letter to let you know that
I had not forgoten you it has
been nearly two weeks since I
have had any letter from you
we don’t get our mail so often
as we did at Chattanooga
we have moved our camp up
the river a bout sixteen miles
from whare we was before so
we are a quite a ways up in
the woods at least it seems
so to me
thare is some in
havit once a round here but
it is not very thickly settled
we are getting out pine logs
thare is a good deel
of pine up here we shall be apt
to stay here quite a whill
I don’t know hardly what to
write to day thare aint any
news as I have hrd, we are so
far from town we dont get
many papers we are having pretty
hot weather down here a bout
now hot enough any way to
sute me we fare pretty well
now days we have potatoes
pretty often now we just
go for these sesesh occasion
aly I believe I haven’t had
any letter from you since the
fourth of July I think it
is most time for me to have
one I think I shall have to
scold you a little now if you
don’t write oftener. I would
like to hear all a bout your
school and your studies
you haint said any thing a
bout eather I believe
July 16th 1864
How are you to day
I am well as usual when I
came in from work to day
what should I find but
a letter from you dated June
the 27th. I think it has been
long enough comeing I supose
the next letter I get from
you I shall hear how you
spent the fourth. I hope
you had a good time I
guess you will have to excuse
me from going to the fourth
for it is most to late
now and I just got it to
day I think you are all to
gather to late this time
I think that was quite
a joke on the letters if not on you at
any rate but how some ever
you must make it up
on mat in some way or other
you complain of hot weather
I dont weather thare as we do
here it is pretty hot the
most of the time I cant
think of much more to write
this time the boys are all well
except Sabin he has pretty
sore eyes but he is so he
works please excuse this poor
letter and I will try and do
better next time write soon
and don’t forget that little
verse that runs things it is with
a hesitating uncertainty that
I commence a decleration
