Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Crosses Landing Tenn July 15th 1864 Dear Met Seeing I have not herd from you in some time I thought I would commense a letter to let you know that I had not forgoten you it has been nearly two weeks since I have had any letter from you we don’t get our mail so often as we did at Chattanooga we have moved our camp up the river a bout sixteen miles from whare we was before so we are a quite a ways up in the woods at least it seems so to me thare is some in havit once a round here but it is not very thickly settled we are getting out pine logs thare is a good deel of pine up here we shall be apt to stay here quite a whill I don’t know hardly what to write to day thare aint any news as I have hrd, we are so far from town we dont get many papers we are having pretty hot weather down here a bout now hot enough any way to sute me we fare pretty well now days we have potatoes pretty often now we just go for these sesesh occasion aly I believe I haven’t had any letter from you since the fourth of July I think it is most time for me to have one I think I shall have to scold you a little now if you don’t write oftener. I would like to hear all a bout your school and your studies you haint said any thing a bout eather I believe July 16th 1864 How are you to day I am well as usual when I came in from work to day what should I find but a letter from you dated June the 27th. I think it has been long enough comeing I supose the next letter I get from you I shall hear how you spent the fourth. I hope you had a good time I guess you will have to excuse me from going to the fourth for it is most to late now and I just got it to day I think you are all to gather to late this time I think that was quite a joke on the letters if not on you at any rate but how some ever you must make it up on mat in some way or other you complain of hot weather I dont weather thare as we do here it is pretty hot the most of the time I cant think of much more to write this time the boys are all well except Sabin he has pretty sore eyes but he is so he works please excuse this poor letter and I will try and do better next time write soon and don’t forget that little verse that runs things it is with a hesitating uncertainty that I commence a decleration [  ?  ] George [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co.
