Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattinooga Sunday Evening April 3d 64 How do you do Met I am well at present and hope these few lines may find you the same and the rest of the folks a getting well I have been up on Mt. Lookout to day it was a prtty hard walk up to the top it is said to be twento four hundread feet high from the level of the river it is very rocky all the way up thare is one cliff of rocks up most to the top rite strait up so we have to go up on ladders thare is a large are hard up on the side of the mountain the largest orchard I ever saw. I should think thare was fifteen or twenty hundred some of peach tres they were all in bloom thare is quite a little village up on the top called summer town it is a very pleasant little place Co C has gone up thare to work our Co is not a going up rite off may be not at all. it would bee a nice place to stay through the summer thare is quite a large cave on the north side of the mountain it is said be to three or four miles long the enterance is a bout nine feet high and ten or twelve feet broad I did not go in for for I had no light I and Sabin are going in some time with a lite thare is a [  ?  ] gallery up one top [  ?  ] they take pcture with mount- -ain cenery they are very nice i think Sabin has gone down to the saw mill to work so we are separated some what but it ant but a little way from our camp a bout three quarters of a mile I see him every day or two theadore is down thare to the boys are all well except Ike he aint very well just now but I guess nothing serius I haven’t received an answer to my lost letter yet I am sory to hear that so many of our folks were sick I should like very much to be thare to get acquainted with your cousin. you spoke in that note you sent in Sabin’s letter a bout our folks sending a box if they send one I would like to have them send me a pair of over alls they would come very handy to work in and save my clothes tell them not to send any pie nor cake for it wont keep direct to Chattenooga I cant think of any more this time our Battallion is bu[  ?  ] a magazine now don’t for fet to write good by George [On Envelope:] Miss Marritte Hutchinson Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
